How to Achieve a Life of True Comfort and Happiness?

Maturity struck me when I realized that my life’s goal is to live in genuine comfort and happiness for the rest of my life. However, the million-dollar question is how to live a life of true comfort and happiness.

Every day, we face a variety of errands and battles. We seem to have many problems to solve at home, at work, and even with our self-growth, let alone our financial status. Even experiencing a small amount of true comfort and happiness is an absolute challenge in life.

While reflecting, reading, and writing, I realized that we could live a life of true comfort and happiness here on Earth. How? Here are the best approaches I discovered for achieving true comfort and happiness:

#1. Acceptance of the Unacceptable

Acceptance of the unacceptable is, to be honest, a difficult task. Look in the mirror to get a better idea of what I mean. We only see our flaws and everything wrong with ourselves most of the time. There are so many ‘what if’ scenarios that run through our heads. We are afraid of being rejected. We are mostly concerned with what other people think of us. We yearn for approvals. Let alone what social media like Facebook do to us.

All of these manifestations stem from our childhood and adolescent experiences. My mom, for example, became ill and bedridden when I was a child. There were times that my papa scolded me for playing outside rather than helping him with our home chores. Anxiety and worry are still triggered by a part of my past in my life today.

Today, whenever such a moment struck me, I openly embrace and accept that such an unacceptable experience in my life happened. We cannot change the past; however, we can accept and learn from it. And so, to respond appropriately.

Another example is when you make a bad decision that changes your life forever. Yes, you will go through a difficult process of accepting whatever caused it, but don’t blame yourself. There was a reason for everything that happened.

Because of some bad decisions, an old friend became a single mother. Instead of blaming herself, she accepted that she had become a single mother and would raise her child independently. Today, she has found and married a wonderful man who accepts her and her child completely. Let alone the fact that her husband treated her baby as if it was his. She achieved her life’s true comfort and happiness!

#2. Work on Growth

When I graduated from university, I thought my education was over. I was wrong. Yes, it marks the end of a chapter in my life, but it also marks the beginning of a new one. And this new chapter began with me being a student of adulthood life.

I recall my aunt’s words from her email. She urged me to do better because I would be on my own once I graduated. At first, I thought she was cruel, but then I realized she was completely correct. And to do better, I should continue to work on my growth.

Like I said in my wellness section on this blog site, your personal growth is an essential time-saver. The better you become, the less time it will take to achieve your goal. Whether big or small, attaining those goals can give us a moment of true comfort and happiness.

Here are the areas of growth that you need to work on little by little along your journey.

  • Mental growth – focuses on developing your mind, such as how you think and learn.
  • Social growth – focuses on developing your communications and relationship with others.
  • Spiritual growth – refers to connecting with yourself holistically, growing as a person, and finding inner peace.
  • Emotional growth – focuses on the development and management of feelings and how you react to any situation.
  • Physical growth – involves taking care of your body and using it in productive ways.

#3. Improve Relationships

Relationships are one of the most paramount aspects of our lives. People who have positive relationships with others (family, friends, and community) are happier, physically and mentally healthier, and live longer lives.

Living in a feud or a toxic relationship, on the other hand, is extremely harmful. As a result, it’s not about having the most friends or being in an intimate relationship, but about the quality of the relationship we have.

Quality relationships can give us true comfort and happiness in life.

In the book of Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist, the shepherd enjoyed the moments of his journey. Because he made sure that his relationship with the people he met was meaningful and full of respect despite having different beliefs, cultures, and backgrounds.

#4. Give Compassion

Dalai Lama mentioned that “Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive.”

Although money and other luxuries can provide us with temporary comfort and happiness, they cannot provide us with true comfort and happiness in the long run. Money and luxuries cannot give a person a purpose, but using these advantages to help others, especially the most vulnerable, can open the door to true comfort and happiness.

Nelson Mandela fought apartheid with great compassion. He did not use violence against his adversaries. Despite serving 27 years in prison, he forgave his aggressors and became an advocate for anti-racial prejudice.

Jesus of Nazareth was accused of treason more than 2,000 years ago and was crucified by the Romans. His own people supported this grim punishment. But he did not use violence against them; instead, he prayed for them and willingly offered his forgiveness. What a great portrayal of compassion!

We must always give compassion to others even in the direst situation, which will give us true comfort and happiness in life.

#5. Remember God Always

If you don’t believe in God, simply accepting and understanding that there is something that is universally large on you is a big step toward true comfort and happiness. The entirety of the universe is concluded in Oneness. We are all connected in its Oneness. And for us to experience true comfort and happiness, we need to recognize our part in that Oneness.

Faithfully speaking, as a believer of God, it’s practical for us to remember God always. In our every decision, choice, and everything we do. 1 Corinthians 10:31 – So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

The question is, why? Why is it necessary for us believers to remember God always? Let’s read Proverbs 3:6-16!

6 Remember the Lord in everything you do, and he will show you the right way.

7 Never let yourself think that you are wiser than you are; simply obey the Lord and refuse to do wrong.

8 If you do, it will be like good medicine, healing your wounds and easing your pains.

9 Honor the Lord by making him an offering from the best of all that your land produces.

10 If you do, your barns will be filled with grain, and you will have too much wine to store it all.

11 My child, when the Lord corrects you, pay close attention and take it as a warning.

12 The Lord corrects those he loves, as parents correct a child of whom they are proud.

13 Happy is anyone who becomes wise – who comes to have understanding.

14 There is more profit in it than there is in silver; it is worth more to you than gold.

15 Wisdom is more valuable than jewels; nothing you could want can compare with it.

16 Wisdom offers you long life, as well as wealth and honor.

Isn’t that a profound explanation? If remembering God always won’t bring us true comfort and happiness in this life, I don’t know what else does. He alone! If we look back from number one to four, we won’t be able to practice them without Him.

To Wrap Up!

I absolutely understand that it’s hard for us to achieve a life of true comfort and happiness. Every day is a puzzle to solve. The challenges are endless! On the other hand, let’s turn our tables around and practice the approaches above. Adding our determination and willingness to them, we will achieve a life of true comfort and happiness!

Stay inspired and motivated, Lounger!
