Sunday Readings Psalm 20

When was the latest time you prayed for another person? It was a question I posed to myself as well. We frequently pray for ourselves but neglect to pray for others (not a family member).

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. – James 5:16

James 5:16 is a beautiful passage that reminds us that our prayers for others are powerful and that we should make it a habit to pray for one another. By doing so, God will answer our prayers more often than we anticipated.

Psalm 20 is a powerful prayer tool that we can use to pray for others who are in hopeful need of our Glorious God’s comfort and mercy.

Sunday Readings Psalm 20

For the director of music. A psalm of David.

1 May the LORD answer you when you are in distress; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you.

2 May he send you help from the sanctuary and grant you support from Zion.

3 May he remember all your sacrifices and accept your burnt offerings.

4 May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.

5 May we shout for joy over your victory and lift up our banners in the name of our God. May the LORD grant all your requests.

6 Now this I know: The LORD gives victory to his anointed. He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary with the victorious power of his right hand.

7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.

8 They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm.

9 LORD, give victory to the king! Answer us when we call!

Amen!

Reflection

I completely understand how hard it is to pray for others when we are used to praying for ourselves and our immediate family only. But, there are many instances in which Jesus and God’s Prophets reminded us not to be self-centered. But rather to be more considerate of others, even our enemies.

Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. – Philippians 2:4

For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. – James 3:16

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. – Galatians 6:2

You will receive God’s mercy, love, and blessings when you pray for others! Keep praying and have a wonderful Sunday, Lounger!
