Tolerance

Tolerance is the ability or willingness to endure something, the existence of opinions or behavior that one does not essentially agree with. Some say that tolerance is an unfortunate attitude because it means bearing something painful or unkind. It degrades one’s character and dignity. It is because you are enabling others to say and do as they like, even if you disapproved. This is absolutely true only if you look at that perspective.

I believe that tolerance has more to this apparently ordinary table than meets the eye. Tolerance is a vital concept that helps people to live together peaceably. It also means that even when you are confident that you are right, still you do not put your sentiments and opinions above those of others. Being tolerant is showing respect. Being tolerant is acting maturely. Being tolerant is showing bravery and strength in dealing with other’s differences. Being tolerant means humility and peaceful coexistence. Tolerance means accepting others’ values, regardless of nationalities, religion, race, color, sex, cultures, and traditions.

One best example I can give you about tolerance in religion. Practicing tolerance means being patient, understanding, and accepting of differences in faith. For instance, Muslims, Christians, and Atheists being friends mirror how to practice tolerance. What a wonderful coexistence!
