What I Learned from the Bible

I was born and grew up Christian. When I was little, about 7 years of age, I woke up early in the morning during Sundays to prepare myself to go to church. My parents encouraged me to fear the Lord and obey His commandments. In the Christian world, who doesn’t know the Ten Commandments? My father and I talk about spirituality at any possible given time. He advised me to read the Bible to understand the faith better and improve my relationship with our Creator. I admit I faded away. I tried many times to read scriptures and other religious booklets, but it didn’t work out. I was idle.

Until recently, in my three years residing overseas, someone of a different faith fired up my curiosity and brought many questions in my faith and beliefs. Thus, because of these questions running around in my mind, I have challenged myself first to read my own – the Bible and do research. I also intend to read others like the Quran and the Torah. Allow me to share with you what I personally found, learned from the Bible.

What I learned from the Bible

#1. God is Only One

I learned that there is no other God but Him alone. The Almighty One who created heaven & Earth. Exodus 20:2-3 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me.” Knowing the God is the only one has strengthened my monotheistic belief.

#2. Jesus is a man, the chosen son of God

I learned from the Bible that Jesus is the man who was chosen by God to represent humanity and give us the possibility to be part of God’s chosen children. Matthew 3:17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.” Zechariah 8:23 “This is what the LORD of Heaven’s Armies says: In those days ten men from different nations and languages of the world will clutch at the sleeve of one Jew. And they will say, ‘Please let us walk with you, for we have heard that God is with you.’”

#3. The Gift of Salvation – Resurrection of Life.

Ephesians 2:4-5 “But God is so rich in mercy, and He loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, He gave us life when He raised Christ from the dead.”  This given passage is only one of the many passages that explore, explain, and reiterate the gift of salvation – the resurrection of life. The fact that Jesus Christ himself has gone through this process is a great illustration for those who believe.

#4. Follow the Commandments – Love One Another.

Romans 2:13 “For merely listening to the law doesn’t make us right with God. It is obeying the law that makes us right in His sight.” Mathew 7:12 “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.

The first three items are easy to say and claim but hard to execute. I learned from the Bible that acquiring knowledge about the good news and accepting God as one true God and Jesus Christ as my savior don’t end there. Execution and constant practice are crucially significant! And of the fundamental commandments which cover all is loving others as thy self.

My Takeaway

In time, I will tell and share with you my stands on the above. Meanwhile, these four principal doctrines from the Bible have given me hope, inspiration, and motivation to continue to seek the will of our God Almighty. Yes, I repeatedly fail and still end up doing something that is considered inapplicable. Still, I continue striving to improve and nurture my soul. Because I am a believer, and my faith commands me to do what is precise in the eyes of our Creator.

Therefore, I am happily inviting you to research. Please don’t be discourage or ashamed about devoutness. Learn more about God’s will and His commandments. Yes! We may have a different faith, beliefs or religion, but the goal is to search for the truth. Serve God for the truth. Love one another for the truth. Our ultimate aim is to cultivate our relationship with God Almighty. Continue to knock and seek. If we seek, we will find.

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”Matthew 7:7-8
