Who doesn’t love this song – One Sweet Day – by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men? Multiple times I heard this song, and it makes me feel good always. Little do I understand that if you go and do a deep dive analysis, it is intended for our loved ones who passed! Right! You read it correctly. I also thought it was a love song, like a typical love song that makes you so in love and gives you butterflies. The melody and the ranges of their voices while performing the song is impressive. Then little by little, I realized it is not a love song! It is more of a memorial piece which is exactly what we want to say to a departed one we love!
Part of the lyrics goes:
And I know you're shining down on me from heaven Like so many friends we've lost along the way And I know eventually we'll be together
It struck my heart, and I thought of my dearest mom!
And yes, every time I hear this song, it reminds me of my dearest mom, who passed in November of 1997.
One Sweet Day is the best song that I can sing for my mom when words are out of my lips.
“Sorry I never told you all I wanted to say…And now it’s too late to hold you.”

So, my dear friend, tell your parents how you love them, how you thank them for the life and journey they shared with you. It’s not too late, especially if your parents are still alive. Drop the differences. I know there are times that they don’t understand you, they don’t realize what dreams you want to achieve but, in the end, they are your parents! They gave you your life – so call them, write an email, send a postcard, visit them, and say how much you love them! ❤️
